SPC Estell Lee Turner, after being out of the Army for 21 years, reenlisted at the age of 42. He went through a basic training refresher course and advanced individual training, all as a Private. He was assigned to the 1/506th out of Fort Campbell, KY where he became known as “Old Man Turner” or “OMT” and was dad to nearly all the Soldiers in his company. In June 2008 while out on mission in Afghanistan his convoy was hit by an IED and my husband was fatally wounded. March 14th would be his 45th birthday. He was my hero ... best friend ... and soul mate. We miss him as much today as we did the day his unit left for Afghanistan.
Thank you,
Leah Turner
